Autumn Term One

Incredible Me

This half term, our topic has been Incredible Me. We have been learning about ourselves and sharing information about who we are with our new friends. We have discussed what makes each of us unique and special and what our talents are. We have been looking at our families and talking about how everybody’s family is different. We’ve enjoyed lots of stories about families and particularly enjoyed And Tango Makes Three.

Literacy

In Literacy, we have been enjoying the story Peace At Last by Jill Murphy. In the story we are introduced to the bear family and their family home. Mr Bear can’t sleep due to Mrs Bear’s snoring and therefore tries lots of different rooms to try and get some sleep. From the story we have talked about good bedtime routines, floor plans of our own homes and animals that are awake at night. We even had a pyjama day to celebrate the end of our story.

We have started to use our new phonic knowledge and have been making marks, writing initial sounds and writing CVC words all based around the book. We have been labelling rooms in Mr Bear’s house and having been drawing maps to help navigate our way around.

Numeracy

In Numeracy, we have been matching and sorting lots! We are able to consolidate this knowledge during tidy up time where we match blocks to their shadow and sort small world items or Lego pieces. We have really enjoyed comparing size and length and have been using the resources in our classroom to challenge our friends to build bigger towers or smaller towers. We really enjoyed comparing our own heights with each other and enjoyed working out who was the tallest in the class and who was the smallest!
